rose stem damage advice

murasakimurasaki Posts: 76
Hi!
I got a Darlow's enigma from someone this spring, own root, 4 year old. But during transport the canes were bound together too tightly and the thorns cut into the stems in a few places. I now noticed that area has become dark brown. Should i cut the stems down or is this not a problem? Sorry for the unfocused pics, my camera only wanted to focus on the background :)

I wouldn't be worrying about that.  When your rose has thrown up more basals and a much larger plant, I would perhaps earmark it for removal further down the line, but not right now.

You're very lucky to have it..
I don't have it currently.. this is in a garden near me..

    ..well foliated..

Thank you, Marlorena! i will leave it alone then.
Thank you for the pics as well, i can't wait to see it grow and bloom! The root was not big, i suspect it was cut too much when they took it out. i hope it will be ok. It hasn't leafed out yet as the bare root ones i planted last autumn, but i imagine that's normal. I received it just one month ago, so i guess it just needs more time.

You've got lots of breaks all over it, [new shoots].. I gather this rose is pretty much indestructible..  Show some more pics of it this summer, if you can..
