Blackcurrant substitute

BigladBiglad Posts: 3,043
Morning all,

This was all that was in the pot labelled as a blackcurrant that I received recently. I'm guessing that it isn't as advertised. I know it's only small but does anybody know what it might be? It has red stems at the moment.

Willowherb …how much did you pay for that?! 😂

    I think somebody's sold you a pup there @Biglad.
I know it spreads, but getting itself posted is definitely stepping up its game! 🙂

I think I would tip it out and see if there is anything other than the white roots of the weed.

It is quite a small pot to have a blackcurrant in it. I'd expect there to be a woody stub of stick, even when it's dormant. As Suze says, have a rootle around and see if there's anything except the willowherb in there, but I'm not hopeful  :/

Where did you buy it from Biglad, we could all buy one and boost their coffers or you could all buy from me and I'll throw in a bit of ground elder free?

I can see we'll have a bidding war here Dove. Right then, I'll throw in a bit of rosebay willowherb too.

I'll see your rosebay willowherb @Uff and raise you copious amounts of Three-cornered Leek

Got me sweating now missus, three cornered leek is a hard card to follow. I think my trump card will be you lot coming up here for the day, digging up as much as you want of the aforementioned and I'll chuck in a BBQ of home made sosses and beef burgers.
    Right then, first bid please.

For the opportunist capitalists amongst you, it cost £4.49 :D

The blackcurrant plant was in with the delivery but wasn't in the pot.

The willowherb clearly evicted the rightful occupant en route.

I actually did very well out of the deal as I got a replacement blackcurrant and 3 replacement blueberries despite the original order only having one blueberry on it (which was on offer - FREE!!), which I didn't ask to be replaced :D
