Spider cocoons

B3B3 Posts: 25,240
These cocoons  are attached to the outside  of my patio doors. I have left  them in peace
My concern  is that last year l found a false widow and tipped it out an upstairs  window  . It landed in the fig tree below.
Might these be false widows? If yes, I'll  get rid.

@wild edges. Can you ID? I don't want to destroy an innocent spider but they look similar to FW cocoons to me.

Couldn't tell you sorry. It wouldn't be the kind of place I'd expect to see FW nests. I get loads of spider nests in similar places and they're almost always orb weavers of some kind.
Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people

  • I’m totally unaware of FW spiders. Are they something that is a problem and should be guarded against. Many thanks for any information. Valerie

Couldn't get the link for the actual page to work. This is the natural history museum website so you can find in through their search.
Some of other links are scaremongering or hysteria😊
