Wise people. I have a clematis ( Venosa violacea) which has survived the winter in a pot . I know I should hard prune it in early spring but I’m not sure if that means now or waiting until March ? All advice gratefully received . Also the Florida Plena which o bought at the same time and also put in a pot appears to have died. I’m afraid I failed to notice that the two of them were differing levels of hardiness. Is there a foolproof way of knowing now whether it has actually died ? Should I just cut it back as well and hope for the best ? Thank you as always .

@Wjs57, I think it's still a bit too early to tell and suggest you wait at least another month to see if any new shoots come through. Most of my clematis have new shoots but then I'm in the fairly mild South West UK and we have had a few days of lovely sunshine.
