The hard green things are immature fruit. You can remove the smallest of these in Autumn/Winter and if your Fig is in the right site and has the right conditions, the larger of the small green fruit should develop and provide decent fruits the following year. I think for any helpful advice, it would be best if you could provide more info re the locality, aspect, age of tree, ground or container grown, feeding and maintenance regime, etc. the more info (and even a photo ) you can provide, the better chance of a helpful answer
