Vegetable Calendar

Hi everyone,

I am new to the Forum. My family and I recently moved to the countryside with a vision of living closer to nature, and in that regard we are working towards self-sufficiency and exploring the science and fine arts of gardening.

We are newbies looking for a vegetable calendar to help us get started. I found some online, but none of them account for the area we're living in, namely Daruvar in continental Croatia. I found a really good one for America, which goes by ZIP-code according to local weather forecasts. Do we have something similar for Europe?

Thanks in advance.

I believe @Ante30 would be the person most likely to have the information you need.

As someone who made a garden in another country (Spain), don't make the expensive mistake I did in thinking I could grow UK plant varieties in Spain, it doesn't work. Our UK seasons are so very different.

Good luck in your new venture and welcome to the forum.

I think @pansyface is right @copenhagenmonk . A forum member who understands the climate and conditions, and the different seasons, is the best help you can get.
Within any country, no matter how small, there can be huge variations [look at the UK] and understanding your location is the way to succeed.
Good luck with it anyway  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I'll second the above.  Here in the UK we're 'warmed' by the Gulf Stream, a luxury not found in continental Europe.  A friend of mine experienced temperatures of minus 40 degrees in Romania a few years back, so I'd consult a few local commercial growers (if you can speak the language) and work from there?  Is there an ex-pat community in the area that would help?

This link https://www.thegardenersalmanac.co.uk/index.htm is for a gardening calendar made by a chap who gardens in Yorkshire.  He's an engineer and very methodical and does veggies and ornamentals.

If you can work out a comparative timing for the various activities based on your local climate - last frosts, snows, rains etc - and then work from there it could guide you very well.
