free draining soil

have moved into a new property and redesigning the garden.  The soil is an absolute dream to dig but when I water, it puddles for quite a time.  I've had clay soil before and its definitely not that.  any comments with be appreciated

    My soil is mostly a dream to dig too, but that's because I've improved it over many years.
    Dig down and it's thick orange or silvery grey Essex clay
