Pruning

Whenever I read an article on how to prune something, the first bit of advice that usually pops up is to sanitise your cutters before starting work.

What is the best way to do this please?

I just use a solution of washing up liquid and wire wool to remove dried sap, then dry them and use oil to protect the blades and the central hinge.  If you're dealing with a disease prone plant like box, you could dip the secateurs in a diluted solution of household disinfectant after each cut.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.
