Sowing ornamental grass seed

Hi there,

just looking for any tips for sowing ornamental  grass seed, specifically when to pot the seedling on (what do grasses true leaves look like?)

Any advice is much appreciated

Grasses are monocots and have just the one leaf rising from a seed, unlike dicot seeds which have a pair of seed leaves and then grow true leaves.
So your seedling leaves in the pictures are true leaves. However I would wait until they each have several leaves and a spreading root system before pricking out and potting on.

I'd agree - too early to move those  :)

    Awesome thanks for the that.

When potting on would you put one seedling per pot as usual or add two to bulk them up so to speak?

It largely depends on the grass, and what you intend doing with them, but 2 in a five or six inch pot would be fine, a smaller pot would have a single one.  :)

    That sounds good, thanks again.

I have all sorts growing just now. Looking at doing a little prairie garden.
