How should I apply ericaceous food granules?

I've got a couple of fairly well established acers in large containers and picked up some ericaceous plant food granules (https://www.gardenhealth.com/gro-sure-ericaceous-plant-food-granules#horizontalTab2).
How should I apply the feed? Do I need to dilute and water in or dig the granules into the existing [ericaceous] compost?

Just gently dig them into the surface of the soil.
Acers do not really need ericaceous conditions, so don't need special feed.
