My kids don't pay on DD but apparently they will receive communication from their local authority inviting them to apply. I would prefer to opt out and let it go to someone who needs it more, the same with the £200 fuel 'loan not loan' but you can't

That's the problem with many administrative set ups @Nanny Beach. It costs more for them to give these pay outs to those that actually want them, than it does to give them to everyone, regardless of their financial position.  You'd have to get it, then give it someone you know, which isn't straightforward for most people  :|

The C. Tax payback doesn't affect me up here anyway, unless wee Jimmy changes her mind. To be honest, when you see what some councils spend money on, everyone should get a refund, instead of the rise that's about to happen up here. Many councils have already raised theirs, so it's only a matter of time.

Yes, fairy,we have a rise coming here as well. Forget how much. I volunteer for a local parish/LA councillor, the 2 rises were in last months news leaflet. I thought you were going to say, give it to charity. The problem I have found with that,is they don't then leave you alone. You send a one off payment they want DD. I do support a couple of local  hospices, and a well known hospital, monthly. Before I retired Battersea dog,Cats protection,RSPCA, water aid, donkey sanctuary, etc but when you hear how much pays the CEOs and how much goes to the actual cause..........

I know what you mean about charities. I choose very carefully who I donate money to ,and I really don't give to the big organisations.  :)
3% is the usual amount the council tax is going up here. Several have already implemented it.

Our council tax has been frozen for a year apparently. I'm not sure that this council can afford that though :/ They will also offer the £150 to low income households I think but it won't be automatic.

Ours has all but been frozen, it’s going to increase by 10p per week.

I've just looked and the rebate is in place here, with a few limitations, but I should get it. I agree with you @wild edges though. I can't see how lots of councils can afford it either, but putting up the C Tax will cancel a lot of it out anyway. Ours has been frozen for years and years so I suppose we can't really complain - although we will ;)
The new charge for removing garden waste, which came in last year, will also cancel a fair bit out, so for me, it'll be around £50 refund. Oh well....better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

The phrase swings and roundabouts springs to mind.
