Rhubarb query

Hi all
i planted 2 crowns of rhubarb last year. They looked very healthy and as per advice I didn’t pick the stems. They naturally died and I put lots of mulch on to protect them. Now in February, there is no sign of new growth. When should I expect this, or do you think they have died?
Thanks in advance5

  • Some varieties are earlier than others … theres plenty of time yet for your rhubarb to appear.
    Don’t worry just yet 🤞

  • Thanks, feel reassured!!
  • Make sure slugs or snails are not eating the emerging leaves.  Otherwise I agree plenty of time yet.

  • Thankyou, I will collect some bramble runners and put them over the area to deter the pesky critters!!
  • Brambles won’t stop ‘em. Not a lot will. Go out with a torch in the evening and pick them off if they’re there. That’s the best way.
Of course you then have to decide what to do with them. I’m ruthless.

  • and the bramble runners could then root into the rhubarb area.

In our slightly warmer climate, mine are just showing through if that's of any help.
