    I think BBC radio should have adverts to raise money.
    You don't need a license to listen to radio.

    Nooooooooo!  No adverts please or my last refuge from re-hashed pop songs and badly spelled sound bites will have disappeared. I am happy to pay for commerce free listening.

    I'd rather pay a licence fee to avoid adverts, especially on the radio - I frequently retune my radio back to BBC stations to avoid that We Buy Any Car ad!

    Even though I never watch TV these days I do enjoy Radio 4 and the World Service.

    The number of languages that the World Service covered was drastically reduced some years ago because they could not be paid for by the existing licence fee.

    This new move by HMG will be the next leg of the table to be sawn off. The BBC will collapse, along with its perceived lefty leanings, and it will be replaced by what Nadine Dorries has already referred to, A State Run Channel which does its masters’ bidding.
    Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.

    I am happy to pay a licence fee … but I think it needs a bit of re-jigging. I think that it should be free for folk on benefits and Pension Credit. If the licence fee has to go up somehow to cover it so be it. It does seem wrong that folk struggling to pay their household bills should have to pay the same as those earning over £100,000 a year.

    but one DOESN'T have to pay a penny to listen to BBC radio, that's my point. So who should be paying for  it to be produced?

    I will pay @Hostafan1 as I said I am very happy to pay for ad free radio, like Pansyface I enjoy Radio4 and the World Service and would be devastated if Crowd Science was interrupted with information about some slimming drink or whatever.

    I don't listen to BBC radio went off it years ago I prefer heart / smooth and others now . Other than GW - bit of the News -  David Attenborough programs and Wimbledon which it will probably lose to one of the big boys and that's it for TV for me , not good value for the £159 for myself and probably younger viewers, a lot of my friends don't watch TV / BBC its all streamed now from Netflix and co. I wouldn't mind dipping in and out on a subscription service or not bother at all , I'd be a bit sad to miss GW but like Carol Klien on C5 and can always watch programs else where .
