  • I was very impressed with Japeto, they sent me a slightly marked leather holster FOC to replace the one I threw away.

I haven't used both but have found the serrated edge on the Japeto very useful when I come across roots when weeding or planting.  Effective against decent size roots too.  Certainly defeats roots up to finger diameter.
One word of advice.  Don't stick it in the soil and then walk away without it.  When you don't realise for a couple of hours, the wooden handle can be a b*gger to spot in the border.

I find the serrated edge really useful. It has been one of those purchases, that before I bought it, i couldn't imagine what I would need it for, but since I bought, I can't understand how I managed without it.

I use a burgon and ball asparagus knife, with a serrated blade on one side for certain weedds like avens. It slices through all the roots a lot easier than forking the buggers out.

Glad you ended up loving it, @mandyroberts99 - knew you would 😉
    How is yours @Uff ?
I'll be brutally honest and tell you that I haven't used it properly. It's one of those tools like kitchen ones that get pushed to the back of a cupboard and forgotten about. Perhaps I should put it on the bench in the shed to remind me to use it.

I do use mine quite a bit.  I purchased it after seeing a gardener at an NT garden using one and asking what it was.  They said it was the tool they used most.

You have the Japeto don't you, @KT53 ?

I think I might go for that one for my sister, even though I couldn't be happier with my Niwaki. Just wondering also if either one is better for small, arthritic hands?

I think several of us have been a bit unsure what to use it for to start with. Then use it a bit, then a bit more, then realise we haven't used much else for ages 🤣
