Broad beans

Might broad bean seeds keep for 3 years or just two? For the sake of my rotation.

  • I saved dried beans from the previous (overwintered) crop from the summer and succession sowed, for overwintering, through October, Nov and Dec 2021. This year broad beans make up my main crop and I will run out of space if I continue.

Broad Bean seeds will keep 3-4 years if stored properly but germination after 4 years can be a bit hit and miss.

As a 'belt 'n' braces' measure, I buy one packet of new seed to sprinkle along my row evenly.  I then go back with the saved seed and do the same with them as densely as the quantity allows (common sense applying of course)
