MODERN TECHNOLOGY- A FORCE FOR GOOD OR A SOURCE OF CHAOS?

Modern technology caused the problem but also helped the victim.

Scottish Power should hang their heads in shame. I saw the news report on TV last night and to see two men entering the woman's flat was a disgrace. I hope it gets as much publicity as possible but I would guess that the Scottish Power won't give a b****y toss.

    Unbelievable.

Not only that they had her down as one of their customers, when she wasn’t, and to pursue her for money that she didn’t owe, but to break in while she was out.

Thank heavens for fancy door bells.

I hope she sues them for trespass and harassment.

(I see you were awake in the wee small hours too, Uff) 🙄

Aye cup of tea time pansyface  :/
Do we have a legal eagle on here? I wondered too if the poor woman can sue and if Scottish Power had a legal document to gain entry and if so surely they would have to have provided proof that she owed money. At that moment I would have thought that the penny might have dropped. Does illegal entry come into it somewhere?

In addition to the person in your link, there's been two women recently who have had serious problems. One being overcharged thousands, and one who wasn't a customer. I believe it's been resolved, but these women are ill with it. There's been a lot of publicity in our news recently about it, and  according to an employee of the the company used to phone customers, they've have been told to threaten customers in a certain way. Utterly vile.
Looking at your link again - I think that is the woman who wasn't a customer. She missed going for her booster jag because of it too.

I had a similar situation when I moved into this house [not S.Power]. The previous company I was with claimed I owed them money, which I didn't. Everything was correct and photos taken of the meter [always worth doing]
Long story short, they got as far as sending letters threatening court. Lo and behold, not only did they realise they were wrong, they actually owed me money.
No apology or **** all. They're lucky I didn't take it further, which I should.

Data Protection Act need to be invoked at the very least.

Even if it was the right address, surely they can't just break and enter over an alleged unpaid bill?!

And spend 27 minutes wandering around inside it.

  • I'm pretty sure they had no legal right in Scots law to break into that flat. The police should be investigating this.

    I was wondering that too.
My energy provider, electricity, is Shell after Green went bust but the distributor is Scottish Power. After hearing about this fiasco last night and reading it on here today I decided to put a claim in for compensation for loss of power after Storm Arwen today. I'm not a supporter of the sue or claim culture but in this case, I will. If they give me some money it probably won't bother Scottish Power one iota but Cancer Research will be glad of the money.

Technology didn't cause the problem.  A human input the wrong information at some stage in the process.  Then idiots ignored attempts made to communicate with them - people again.
