A quick update on the project in hand. I decided on a little occasional table for the outdoors. The four sides have been cut to form the legs and a wooden top has been made. I now have to file the rough edges on the metal, coat the inside with Kurust, stain the wooden top, and then assemble the whole. Expect a picture any day soon.
As requested Lizzie27. Not everyone's cup of tea but when it's placed where I plan to put it, it, in a secret place in a shrubbery by the side of a wooden chair, I'm sure it will be nice. Thank you for your suggestions for the project, all of them were tempting.
It's different Lizzie27 and that's a fact. The top is stained the same colour preservative as the chair that FairyGirl mentioned so they go together well. I'll post a pic in the spring/summer when they are in situ.

Nice bit of recycling or 're purposing' as they seem to like calling it nowadays
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Are you making the chair too?

Did someone say you need a chair?
