Hi there, I'm looking for some upward-facing hellebores (rather than the ones whose heads droop down). A friend has recommended the Ivory Prince (Helleborus x hybridus ‘Walhelivor’), any more recommendations?
There is a website entitled Twelve Nunns which specialises in Hellebores. I have purchased from them in the past and wasn't disappointed. You may find what you are looking for there.
I have some holly-leaved hellebores which are upright plants and outward facing blooms. The pic here shows greenish petals but mine are quite a pure white. They unbothered by slugs and long flowering.
The Helleborus Gold Collection series is promoted as having outward-facing flowers — try adding “HGC” or “gold collection” if you’re looking to buy some online, but some find they aren’t fully hardy
H. niger has more outward facing flowers too. They flower at this time of year onwards, depending on where you live. Mine are about to flower.
Thanks for that Fairygirl. I was just looking for something to plant under a large shrub that i look down on from my favourite seat. Planted a couple of H. niger 'Christmas Carol' this morning.
Nice @jomacl. My H. nigers have all popped their clogs. Weather's been a bridge too far for them this year [or last year] and they've been too soggy. I find they need to be slightly above ground to keep the crowns drier. Might try them in the raised beds instead, if I can find a space. I've not bought any Hellebores for several years, so I might be tempted this year. It's a pity so many of them are a bit 'droopy'. My windows are quite elevated from the garden, and it would be nice to see them better from there, especially as they're mainly winter flowering.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
