Lonicera Purpusii Winter Beauty

Hi everyone - this is my first try at posting on here.  I've just taken delivery of a rather small honeysuckle (10 cm tall).  Would it be best to pot it on a year or two before putting it in the ground - or should I do that straightaway? (Glasgow area.) Thanks in advance.

Yes, that is what I would do, it's far too small to survive outside, especially in Glasgow (no offence intended!).

Ooh yes, I have several. They are so easy to take cuttings from. Mine are beginning to flower now - beautiful perfume. 😊

Pot it on - if it's filling the pot. Otherwise, just leave it in the one it's in until spring, and pot on once it's grown a little. You'll be able to plant it out later next year  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you all - I'll pot it on then. Its roots already fill the 9cm pot it is in so I'll give it a bigger one and just keep outside somewhere sheltered. Thanks again - lovely to hear from folk.

That'll be perfect for it  :)
It'll be fine outside though. Perfectly hardy here, although somewhere out of the worst of weather for the winter.

  • Just watch for little snails stripping the bark from the stems ... they do it to our honeysuckle as well as the clematis around here.

Wonderful! It just saved me asking the same question.  Thank you to all.

  • Wonderful tiny flowers with amazing scent for winter.
Does get quite large...make sure you give it space.
