    Perhaps the NT is still existing in the eras some of the buildings and gardens were built - pre tv, radio and newspapers @pansyface ;)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Not yet, (peat) but it will be.

    It is still possible here to buy big bags of pure peat compost and peat-based compost to use a sa soil improver or for seed sowing.   Baffles me.

  • Peat compost is being phased out … the ban comes into effect in the UK in 2024 … don’t know whether it’s the same in the EU. 

    The Nat Trust is calling for an international ban … that's why it’s being said at COP26. 




    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    Thank you all. It must have been wishful thinking on my part.

    I think I read last year that the wonderfully named Irish Peat Board had disbanded itself. Maybe that was what got me muddled.

    (Doesn’t take much these days.)
