Good Evening All

We have inherited a very old damson tree which is just about producing very rich fruit, 3.5kg ish. What a treat!
We also have four self seeded young saplings producing a small handful each. They have established themselves a couple of metres away.
I would be very grateful if any of you could advise how I could look after the old tree. We live in Cumbria so we have plenty of rain water. The air is clean and we have lichen growing on the tree.
I look forward to reading any posts. Thank you.

The best and most productive damson tree that I know lives on waste ground and has never seen the sharp end of a pair of secateurs in its entire life, I don’t think.
The saplings that you see may well be suckers coming off the root system of the tree, particularly if the fruit is identical to that of the tree.
If you live in Derbyshire, as I do.
We had several of those, some of which produced some fruit. Once we removed them, the the "mother" tree started to produce much more fruit.
