Hosta leaves

Can hosta leaves that are decaying on the plant, be collected and turned into leaf mold (I'm an amature) so please be kind.

  • Presumably if they're mixed with much drier leaves it should be OK.

    Not a silly question.

I think they're too soft and soggy and are better on the compost heap.  Leaf mold is usually made from tree and shrub foliage which is far more fibrous and takes a year or two to breakdown but makes a great soil conditioner when ready.
