Growing herbs indoors

Hi I am growing a couple of herbs indoors but flies keep going on I think they are eating them. Please suggest any ideas of how to get rid of them.

They'll be fungus gnats of some kind probably. Quite common, especially when it's warm and wet. They're in the compost.
Unlikely to be eating them though, as they're harmless - just annoying,  unless it's something else you have   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Yellow sticky paper was previously suggested to get rid of the black flies. I found it to be useful. Also if you let the soil dry out between watering it can improve the black flies situation.
  • Thank you so much for the advise. I will try this.
  • @fairygirl. Ow if they are not taking bites from them it might be snails.

Very unusual if you have snails inside the house.
Without proper photos though, we can only guess.  :)
