Cacti and mealybugs

Hello!

There’s a lot of advice floating around with dealing with mealybugs on cacti and succulents that I’m not sure what to do anymore! I’ve never encounter them so any advice would be lovely!

I’ve attached a few photos for reference 

The last photo is where they were first stumbled across where it had rotted…

I spray them with rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl alcohol), and you can also remove them with a jet of water but that is a bit messy. There are other methods.

Is this the same as methylated spirit?

it is not the same as methylated sprit, but it can also be used.

There are sprays available and I used one on a cactus with quite severe infestation.  It certainly sorted the problem.  It was some time ago so I don't remember the actual product.

I just use rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab, rather than a spray.  But I didn't have to contend with spines
