Amazing mushroom ID please!!

This has come up near my garden over the last few days it’s about 10cm tall and under an oak tree, just wondering if anyone knows what it is? I’ve tried looking at some fungus ID stuff on line but can’t find this one.
btw I don’t like mushrooms so won’t be attempting to eat it !!!

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Oh I saw that on the plant ID web site but it has a stalk unless this is going to grow a stalk in the coming days?

    Also called Lawyers’ wigs.

When picked early in the day, before they begin to turn to black liquid, and cooked promptly, (they continue to disintegrate after picking) they are very tasty.
Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.
If you live in Derbyshire, as I do.

  • Actually I can’t stand mushrooms to eat even the smell turns my stomach ! But thank you for the info it’s very interesting! I’ll watch it over the next few days see if it changes! So interesting to see these things just suddenly appear it makes you wonder what’s going on under the ground that we can’t see and are unaware of!

They change very rapidly, so it won't look like that for long  :)
    It all happens underground  ;)

Shaggy Inkcap is edible and very delicious mushroom. This mushroom is one of those which can't combine with any alcohol. If you go to eat this mushroom, you can't drink 24 hours before and after consummation because if you mix this mushroom and alcohol it will cause vomiting.

I found also few of them.

  • All very interesting thanks everyone! I’ll post more pictures if it changes I’m intrigued now😁
