Can you help identify this plant?

Sorry the pics aren't great.  I was asked by my SIL to come up with some suggestions for planting in an area of the grounds he maintains for one of his clients.  We went over there and I took some pics but couldn't identify this plant.  It was obviously planted as ground cover at some point - there is vinca on the other side but I don't know what it is and how it will behave in different seasons.

    One of the Epimediums?

    Hmm, could be.  The leaves are soft though, rather than leathery.

    Possibly one of the vancouverias but I'm not sure.

    Vancouveria l would be my thoughts as well.
    Thrives in shade.

    Thank you.  Vancouveria is a new one on me.  Might have to get some for a shady bit of my own garden!

    Funnily enough @didyw, I was looking at them on Edrom's site a month or so ago, but they don't have any stock just now  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Really interesting - thank you for introducing me to a plant I've never seen or heard of before. It does look remarkably like an Epimedium. Could it be invasive, do you think?

    Leaves do resemble Epimediums.
    In damp ground it can spread...but easily controlled
    In dry ground much slower
