National Trust

I do hope the petrol queue's end here soon, we wanted to drive out to Sissinghurst Castle, look at the lovely gardens again and get some tips from their gardeners. Love the National Trust gardens, looking forward to a trip to Sheffield Park again, don't you just love them autumn colours.

I lived very near to Sissinghurst , would pop out there quite often so could see it in all seasons.
    Autumn colours are indeed beautiful.

Our nearest Trust property is the lighthouse at Dover, about 30 miles, nice view, but the gardens aren't great.

Used to take the kids to Dover they loved it.
Another favourite was Hever Castle, love the grounds there.

I love Scotney Castle, the Rhododendrons are amazing and it wasn't till I visited there many years ago that I realised so many are scented.

Oh yes,  I haven’t lived there since 1986,  it’s just comping back, Scotney the one with the little round house?

  • Nymans is our 'local' and a great garden, we're very lucky.

We love Hever too, although it's so expensive nowadays (not NT). There's absolutely tons for the kids to do as well as the great gardens though. Tulip season is fabulous there.

I think this is Hever about 1983.  My daughter loved it there.

It's got the castle that was made into a romantic folly by a past owner, who part demolished it, can't remember his name. The castle is surrounded by a lake.

Nymans is wonderful, would love to see it decorated for Christmas.

Our last pre-COVID activity was a wedding at Hever Castle, just a few weeks before 1st lockdown.  It was rather special having the whole place to ourselves for the weekend. It has a remarkable history, even in the 20th century when William Waldorf Astor restored it and had the river moved! Most of us struggle with making a pond so the work required for that was immense. Helps if you are a billionaire of course.
