Hello, please can anyone tell me what plant this is? I saw it in the Sissinghurst Gardens last week and it did not seem to have any scent. Any help would be much appreciated.
I have Recta, it’s a ground cover plant, I think I would agree on Vitalba. Did you enjoy Sissinghurst Paula , I lived near there used to pop out quite often.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Thank you everyone for your quick responses which have been very helpful. The plant was smothering a stone wall. Hi Lyn I am originally from your part of the world! It was my first visit to the area and I also visited Great Dixter. I loved both of the gardens and got so many ideas from their planting schemes.
I agree with FairyGirl, Lyn and Charlotte, paula - Clematis vitalba and isn't it a beauty? I was getting confused with the clematis I have which is Clematis Flammula. That scrambles every where and is scented.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
There's a lot of those ones which are quite similar though @Ladybird4, isn't there? I can never really remember which one is which! I might actually opt for one for the front garden fence. Was considering something else, but that might do the trick.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Was it free standing rather than climbing through something else @paulaevans63?
