My favourite gardening read, as I know I've said on here before, is Margery Fish's 'We Made a Garden'.
I forgot that one, I really enjoyed it too. I loved that it was as much a book about their marriage in places, the passive aggressive disagreements about his climbing roses made me smile 😂
I read that after we'd visited her garden. As you say @CharlotteF , there were parts of it that struck a chord with me. It was like reading about me and my OH at times
I’ve only ever read one book by Monty Don, The jewel Garden. I loved it.
What does it cover?
I was gifted Down To Earth years ago and it’s essentially my gardening almanac. I just pick it up every month or two and read relevant sections again. I love it. Advice and reassurance in one package.
It covers his life before Longacre, when he and his wife had a lucrative business making jewellery for the rich and famous, then lost it all, they had absolutely nothing and lived in a spare room in there parents house. Then it goes on through his depression, how gardening was recommended to him, the first garden he managed to buy through to the one he has now.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

Oh interesting. I had thought from his describing his early life that he had always been in gardening.
I've read some of his books. They're ok. I'm not sure I'd read them again. The Jewel Garden is an interesting read having said that and I've actually read it twice. There are some inconsistencies in it and he says quite a lot by omission but worth a read even so. My favourite gardening book is 'The no work garden' by Bob Flowerdew.
I love Bob Flowerdew, I haven’t read any books but he used to write an article in a magazine each week/month? The Dons made expensive flashy jewellery, think Lady Diana was one of his customers. I believe his father was into gardening so he was brought up with it, not a complete novice.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Think I prefer the Blue Cord and Braces look 😂
