@philippasmith2 I’ve just checked the foreword and yes Anna Pavord is gardening correspondent for the Independent.  Definitely give Katherine Swift’s the Morville Hours a go if you like that sort of thing (you can get 2nd hand copies cheaply on A******n).  It was a book that I felt like there was something missing in my life when I finished it …..but luckily there’s a sequel 😝
  • @chicky Thanks - I'll have a look for that.

Anna Pavord - she's a tulip expert if I'm not mistaken? I'm sure I have one of her books somewhere. Possibly the tulip one  ;)
Haven't looked at it in ages.

@Fairygirl - yes, her most famous book is about tulips (mostly tulip mania I believe) but I haven’t read that one.  The curious gardener is a month by month ramble through what she does in the garden - with quite a bit of tangential rambling.  But it’s the tangential rambling that gives it its charm 😀
  • I really don’t have a problem with products being offered for sake at a time when most are likely to be sold … chocolate eggs in the run up to Easter; windscreen de-icer  as frosts are expected,  school uniforms in the summer holidays etc.
It’s not just the writers who need to make a living, it’s the publishers, wholesalers and bookshops and their many employees.
It’s a bit like garden centres stocking up with tools, seeds and composts in time for spring. They sell more at that time of year than they would in August 😊

I’ve only ever read one book by Monty Don, The jewel Garden. I loved it.

I think I had it [The Tulip] at one point, but I had quite a lot of books at one point that I no longer have. I probably got it when I was studying.
I've just had a look, and found a gem that was my daughter's favourite 'bedtime book'. Geoff Hamilton's The Living Garden.  ;)

    No.  :D
It was all the insects etc she loved. She knew every page... ;)
