Alternative plant ideas, please

I have 2 strawberry planters which I would like to plant up ... but am looking for alternative ideas to strawberry plants. They will be positioned against a whitewashed cottage wall along the roadside, which is west facing and we live in west Devon.
Any thoughts welcome, please!

Diascia. I grow them in a terracotta  herb planter.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • I want a picture of this.
  • I should mention ... succulents are not an option I would want to consider. 😊
  • Ah ... thank you, B3 ... that looks amazing.

They will survive the winter. Easy to divide. I tipped them out last year after two or three years and replanted in fresh compost. I don't understand why more people don't grow them. They're not of particular interest to slugs either, drought resistant too.

I second diascias too. I've been quite surprised how well they've done and survived overwintering without protection (in the ground and in a trough) in my garden.
Another suggestion might be the Erigeron karvinskianus - but that does self seed everywhere.

    How lovely @B3.
My slugs have suddenly decided this year they like diascias. I told them they have to joking, but apparently not.
Great to see some self seeded snap dragons appearing and not being eaten. Something of a miracle.
  • Thanks, everyone! 😊
