Help!! 20 year old Magnolia Grandiflora loosing all its leaves

Can anyone tell me what is happening to my Magnolia? it was fine and flowering until half way through this year but now has dropped all its leaves. the soil is moist it has not been moved but suddenly started shedding. it is around 20 years old, Please can anyone advise me?

    Has it always been paved over? There is very little exposed soil for water to penetrate so it might be very dry where most of the roots are.

    Is that like a large pot? Where does it get its water from? Is the paved area new or there all the time?

  • How sad but from what others are saying  it looks as though it has suffered badly from drought.
    Ours (bought over 30 years ago for 50p!!!) is magnficent but it is in its own ground and has plenty of space to develop its roots.
    Sorry no idea if it will come back...I rather think not.

    It shouldn't have been shutting down so soon, unless you're somewhere north of me, or at serious altitude. It really doesn't look great unfortunately.  :/
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  • Is it possible that someone in your neighbourhood sprayed a herbicide?
