fly killer on compost

I have a lot of small flies in the compost bin and they come into the house which is the problem, will it do any harm to give the bin an occasional spray of fly killer?

Try adding a layer sawdust over each helping of adding waste to the bin - much as you would a compost loo. It will help keep the flies down. The point of composting is to invite critters in to live there and break down the material for you. They are doing a good job.
