Fairly sure this is a Beech sapling that has appeared in my son's garden but would appreciate confirmation

Oh good that's a keeper then. It's a fairly small garden but the local housing association built houses just the other side of the back fence so he has a gable end for a view and no money to buy large plants.  Hopefully it will turn out to be an interesting one. Thank you both.
