Rose bushes

Hi, can anyone advise between either "The Country Parson" or the "Gabriel Oak" rose bushes, which I'm hoping to plant in a large pot against a north facing fence?  The fence does get some sun that filters between the neighbouring houses.  Not sure if I'm mad to even try??

I have both of those... the location is not a problem for either until late summer, when Gabriel Oak will defoliate with black spot even in the best location.. north facing will make it worse..

The Country Parson blooms continuously and is a healthier plant, foliage wise.   The drawback is it's exceptionally thorny and you would not want to brush past it..

  • Hi Marlorena. Thanks so much for getting back to me. I'll definitely give Country Parson a try. I've read some of your other posts and really value your opinion (especially as my knowledge regarding roses is not great).

..that's ok, thank you...   The Country Parson produces gorgeous lemon scented blooms, fully double, quartered or rosette shaped, and quite large when established, which fade to white..
..it takes time to develop, so be patient there..

  • Thank you.  I'm planning to buy it as a bare root next March and plant it in the biggest pot I can find (might try and persuade my husband to make one. Good to know I might need to be a bit patient.
