I'm so sorry @rubyrannaa. What a horrible problem. If you're in council accommodation, I'd have thought the council would have to look at it right away.
Have you tried contacting your local MP?
I know they aren't much use most of the time, but it's a possibility. They might be able to force the council into action at the very least.
Citizens Advice too. I'm not sure how much help they can offer for something like this, but worth a shot.
Are there are any social media sites in your area that might be able to help? I don't use any of them, but local Facebook and similar outlets might offer some support, if nothing else.

We had situation with large oak .tree in our last front garden. It was really difficult to see round because of a bend, when coming out of the drive, and the roots destroyed  the water main which we had to replace as owner occupier. It's the district council, the one responsible for roads, not the local council, and they paid for and did the root report. Hope this helps. My daughter names and shames companies on Facebook,or local paper.

Tpo tree is burden on as  owners responsibility,. If it causes any damage.with no money can't demolish garage with asbestos roof what a joke.
I will try n get in touch with citizen bureau. Also worth trying media as u indicated.

@rubyrannaa - have you got buildings insurance? If something falls on your property, you can claim on that.
Sorry - I've just seen that your insurance doesn't cover it.
    Hellish  :/

  • Ins people very clever they came and looked and said roots causing garage uplifting.and they googled map 2012/2014.said it's been since then so it's wear n tear or something like that can't cvr under insurance. Suggested should employ professional to demolish garage.
    Thanks for all yr support.

  • It's your county council you need to speak to, where ever you live. Nice chap came out, agreed it was causing damage, and they removed it,at their expense. Then a nasty little man from the local council came gave us a map, showing "our" tree and the TPO,really gloating. Showed him there was NO tree!! He hopped up and down screaming at us. Course,we had proof it wasn't us! Good luck. TPOs can be overridden by Town and Country Planning Dept.Is the tree overhanging a road or path. Is it possible you can take a picture, without of course identifying where you live?

If it is causing damage, the TPO can be lifted, but as the owner of the tree and the garage, it will still be you who has to pay for the tree removal and the  damage to the garage/removal of garage. The tree surgeon will know how to do all the applications to have it removed.   The asbestos sheets used in garages can be removed, you just have to find someone who knows what they are doing and they dispose of it properly.  One of the downsides of home ownership is you have to pay for repairs and maintenance.
