HYANCINTHS

Growing hyacinths indoors: I am planning to grow both winter flowering and spring flowering.

Is there a specific soil or can I use multipurpose?

Does the indoor planter still need drainage holes? I am asking because I have seen hyacinths sitting on top of a water filled vase or similar?

Does the bulb have to be half visible above soil?

  • You can use multi-purpose, but if you want to keep them for another year you might get a better result from something more substantial.
You don't need drainage holes, just be careful when watering.
Many bulb pots are quite shallow, so they get more root room if you don't bury them. If you use a deep pot or plant them in the garden they can go in deeper. :)
