Monty Don’s lime tree in pot

On Gardeners World a few months ago in a piece on citrus Monty Don at Longmeadow was growing a lime tree in a pot which he recommended as the best one to grow. Can anyone remember which variety it was, please? Thank you

I vaguely remember him talking about citrus earlier in the year.
Worst case, all the programmes are on iPlayer, so you could trawl though a few of them if no one here can recall.

You could also just try googling - something like lime tree Monty Don should bring up some suggestions and probably a link to the programme  :)

I don't watch it any more, so can't offer any further ideas, but @Pete.8 's suggestion is also good, especially if you have a rough idea of which month it was.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I tried that first - forgetting he has pleached lime trees too :)
Even adding citrus to the search didn't throw up the name of his lime

  • Many thanks for replying, both of you. Annoyingly I wrote down the variety at the time but now can’t find the piece of paper anywhere! I tried googling too but got no result, hence trying on here to see if anyone remembered. I’ve looked up citrus lime varieties as I recalled it had an exotic sounding name but still wasn’t sure which one Monty had said his was. Thank you again for your help.

I’m guess e18 which has Monty summer fruit pruning or e13 which has Monty container feeding

I haven’t watched this season yet either, too busy with other hobbies until two weeks ago

The only one I'm aware of is the Kaffir Lime which is grown for the leaves and peel of the fruit in cooking.
I bought a shopping bag full of the leaves in Koh Samui in the 90's for about 50p and froze them on return the UK. The few left still have a reasonable scent and I'm still using them.
Maybe I'll try a tree when I run out

  • I’ve been looking through various citrus limes online and I think Monty’s may be the Tahitian lime. It seems to be a fairly reliable variety. Thank you for all your suggestions and help everyone.
