Autumn bulbs.

Hi  I’m looking to plant some crocuses, snowdrops etc, but the lawn has many weedy patches. Do you think they will still grow through weedy turf?

    Yes.
Snowdrops like a damper shadier spot - generally speaking though, so it may not be such a good location for them. Crocus are good for naturalising in grass though.  :)

Thanks I’ll give it a shot this autumn, there’s a few weeds but hopefully it’s worth a try. I was going to use a bulb planter, but I want to sow quite a few, so may go for the “H” shape method.

Can you expand on the H shape method please? I'd like to plant a large number of bulbs this autumn.

You cut the turf in the shape of an H [ so 2 verticals and a horizontal]  like the pages of a book,  then fold back the two halves it creates after sliding a spade under the turf to loosen it.
You can then dig out to the depth needed for the bulbs - it's mainly done for crocus etc which don't need much depth - and plant. The fold the turf back into place and water in to get it in contact again with the soil.
