Tomato cracks

Hi, I’m having a great tomato harvest this year (and I am very grateful for the help from the gardenersworld forum earlier in the year!), but I am wasting a lot of tomatos due to deep cracks and splits.

Do you have any tips on what causes this and how this can be prevented in future?

Thanks! All the best
James

It's caused by periods of slow followed by fast growth.  Irregular watering is often the cause, but periods of cool weather followed by much warmer weather doesn't help either.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • I've put mine down to weather too. This year splits are on most plants, even though they have been treated just the same as last year. They are both inside the greenhouse and outside,  so watering hasn't been an issue , but temperatures and light levels have.
They don't look as nice and don't keep @itsjamessmart but can still be used.
  • Thank you both!
