Seems to vary, I had Waltzing Matilda in bloom in June, whereas Blue Bayou started in August. Starting them early helps, although you will need somewhere to grow them on until the risk of frost has passed. (I had them on a windowsill with grow-lights until May, and then a couple of weeks under cover in a pop-up greenhouse).
  • Always start mine in march, had a couple of smaller variety flower in my south facing front garden, quite a few out now, more to come. They haven't been as big a flower as previous years, but I don't mind the late show, hopefully they will go on till at least October. Had a big problem with slugs early summer, ended up putting all the pots on top of a table

I leave mine in the ground so they were a bit late getting going because of the cold spring, but they'd caught up by around the beginning of August to where they would normally be.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • I did leave some In,not Alf Ramsey because he was very expensive, but the wet spring some rotted and slugs had a field day
  • I bought a lot of new ones this year
