It’s called Faciation, there’s some weird and wonderful examples on the thread called Fascinated by Faciation on this site.

Be careful or it's all you'll have in your garden  :D
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • what I like about willowherb is that they’re so easy to pull up. Wish all weeds were like that.

Loads of other plants which are good for insects at this time of year - all the daisies for example - Heleniums, Rudbeckias, Helianthus, Asters, Shasta daisies etc.   :)

Only the annual willowherbs are easy to pull up, @Ilikeplants.  Rosebay willowherb, which is what the OP has, I think, is perennial and has deep, thick roots which spread widely.  Not good news in a flower bed...   :/
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Thank you for all your comments. I'm very lucky to have a big enough garden where I can have wild areas for pollinators so I dont have to worry about spread in flower beds... 🌸🐝🌺🐝
But ground elder... Now theres a different story!!
