Pineapple Sage 'Pino'

I have just been given a small plant of Pineapple Sage 'Pino'   can anyone offer further advice how to treat it i.e. is it hardy - can it be grown in a pot?
It does not smell of Pineapple?

It was bought at a yard sale and the seller had no idea!

Hi there, this is a variety of Salvia - Salvia elegans.  It is tender so needs to be brought into a grrenhouse or conservatory over winter.  Try crushing the leaves to release the pineapple smell.  This link should help you: Salvia elegans - BBC Gardeners' World Magazine (gardenersworld.com). It has culinary uses, mainly in desserts and cocktails.  Time to experiment!

I found it very nice with chicken in stuffed peppers. but yes any frost will kill it so it needs to be inside over winter.

Amazingly mine has been happily surviving all weathers for a couple of years planted in the ground next to the old garden wall. As they say, plants can't read the labels. I even used some of its red flowers for a Christmas vase arrangement.
