Garden Plant Web API

Hi there,

I am hoping there are some gardeners who are into coding too who can help me out! I have been looking on the web for API's with garden plant data, containing the kind of info you get on the tickets at your local garden centre; like month of bloom, image, amount of sun exposure required etc. There are a lot of references to one called Trefle, but this has now been archived. I have found others but they seem to be about growing crops etc. Are there other resources out there that could provide the kind of info I am looking for?

Many thanks

  • The likes of the RHS wbsite usually gives the basic info you are after.
Unless you can find a good trustworthy local App, none will be able to offer conclusive advice on your particular situation/orientation/climate.
You have to research the basic needs and then apply them to your conditions as closely as possible.
If there was a Magic App, I doubt there would be so many posts on the Forum requesting help and advice ;)
  • It's not about an app as such, but a data set that has an API that can be used as the access to the information. I would expect the RHS must monetise access to their aggregated data and can't imagine they have an open access API. But maybe worth contacting them, had a look but their website doesn't mention any data sharing or APIs but being a charity their empirical and scientific data has value and it is not the by product of public funding so can't imagine it will be made available for free.

Its been a while but did you manage to find anything? I have a feeling that neither GW nor RHS has an open api (disappointing on RHS side)
