Honeysuckle Flowering

Hi all

This spring I planted some early and late Dutch honeysuckle either side of my front door.  They were both about a foot high when planted and were bought from the garden centre.  I always assumed that the pruning for these particular varieties is based on them flowering on the previous year’s growth.  However, on the early Dutch honeysuckle I noticed some flower buds appearing over the last few days, and this is all on current seasons growth.  Has anyone come across this before?

It's not unusual for climbers to have some flowers outwith their normal flowering period, so nothing to worry about. The fact that they were around a foot high when you bought them suggests they'd simply been cut back, which is also perfectly normal. Otherwise, they'd be impossible to contain and display 

I'm not sure that's the best site for those though.

Ok that’s great thanks. Regarding the site, they are on a north-east facing wall, is this not ideal?

It's more that they're rather vigorous, untidy plants, so they can be a bit wayward and messy next to a doorway
