Hi all, Could anyone give advice on what to do with a hydrangea we bought this year, it started out doing great, but just lately it doesn’t look too happy. What would you do to help it?
My guess is possibly not enough water. It's difficult to tell from the angle but l'm also wondering if the pot is too small. Hydrangeas prefer to be in the ground, but l have a couple in very large pots. You do have to keep an eye on the watering though
Not really anything wrong with it as such, other than the spent flowers. I'm guessing it was one which was purchased for the 'Easter market' - ie a forced one, which is why it's covered in spent flowers. If it's going to stay potted [and many are totally unsuited to that] it will need a better container, a soil based medium, good drainage, loads of watering and a mulch to help retain moisture.
Some slow release food in spring is helpful but not vital if it has everything else
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
