Plant ID please

I’ve recently moved to a new house. Quite large areas of the garden are covered with this plant (shrub?).
Could somebody tell me what it is and what to do about it? I find it quite pretty but it does seem to be very vigorous.
Thanks!

Looks like Vinca to me.  A useful plant for ground cover in shade.  It has small purple flowers.  Not a a weed (unless you really don't like it).
  • Vinca major - useful enough as ground cover but let it roam at your peril - it will grow up and along and root where it gets it's toes in the soil.
It's a "smothering" plant so beware as once happy, it can be extremely difficult to contain.

Thank you for your responses. Any advice on how to contain it? Is it just the case of trimming? Or do I need dig it up and thin it out? I don’t really want it taking over the whole of the garden…

You need to dig it out. Fortunately the roots aren't particularly deep.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
