correct weeding

It’s a never ending job. Using a hoe and disturbing weeds and leaving them in the ground as some do, any better than raking out completely. That way I know they are gone. Is there any sure way to know if just raking and leaving them is any better than total removing them.

If you leave them on damp soil, they could well root again. Tenacious blighters, some of them. Best to remove them.

  • I do want the weeds out so remove as many as possible without cutting them up to allow more growth.

On a dry sunny day I hoe and leave weedlings to shrivel … but it only works if you how often enough that the weedlings are small.

Yes - leaving them on wet soil is always risky. If it isn't dry enough to leave them as @Dovefromabove describes, then you need to remove, and dispose, of them.  :)

  • Hello Fairygirl  Thanks for advice. I thought of frequent hoeing. Maybe, just maybe weeds if you keep at it for long enough weeds just die.

Weeds are a fact of life. You can reduce them, but new seedlings will always arrive. It's better to try to see the calm and peacefulness of a little weeding session, than to beat yourself up thinking of ways to defeat them forever.

The other method is to use lots of groundcover. That helps keep the little blighters away and reduces the weeding time.  :)

Don’t look at it as weeding more like giving those prize self setters a fighting chance to show their worth. Then your just removing the competition.

I have just found the Joy of hand weeding afterturning a blind eye to the little tinkers.

Folded towel on the soil to protect my "hockey knees " and after what I think is 10 minutes its really 45 minutes.
