How do I get verbena B to be multi stem?

My Verbena bonariensis plants have seeded themselves a gazillion times and as it's one of my (and the butterflies) favourite plants I have transplanted a load into pots where they are very happy. I'm planning to take some with me when I move house in the spring and give others to friends. I'm a bit useless / still a beginner and I wondered how I grow them into becoming multi stem plants like you'd buy in a nursery, instead of the leggy seedlings they currently are? Sorry if that's a really stupid question!

I think the self seeded are leggier. You could plant a few together to get a clump but they're likely to be pretty high.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

    Pinch them out  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • I'll give it a try pinching them out - I wasn't sure if that could only be done when seedlings are small (some of them are about 60cm high already!). Failing that I'll plant a clump of them together. Thank you both!

Yes - they need cut down after winter [ assuming they survive] to promote new growth, so it's just the same as doing that.  :)
If some are that height, I'd definitely nip them back, and use the snipped material as cuttings.
