Can anyone tell me what this beautiful red rose is called - currently seen growing on the island of Cyprus - this week?  It has flutted petals which had a look of poppy about them.

Sorry, I maybe should have tried to add the link but I'm not too good at that sort of stuff. Thanks, @ Fire.

You would be best to ask locally, really... no idea where they get roses from in Cyprus.. the Med islands are known for roses that were originally from India for instance..  that might be one of theirs too..

    Thanks Marlorena,
Nollie has identified the rose as Flanders Rose, which i believe is correct.  I know that the med islands are known for their roses and rose products.

I'd be very surprised if 'Flanders Rose' found its way to Cyprus..

..this is a group of 'Flanders Rose'.. the foliage is quite different and the blooms not that similar to my eyes..

Hi @Marlorena, confusion of different threads on the same topic as the new member wasn’t sure what section to post in, this was what I said on the other one!

“there is a semi-double red rose called Flanders (poppy like?) with ruffled petals by Peter Beales. The foliage of it looks a bit darker than in your photo, but leaf colour can be different depending on growing conditions or the exposure of your photo. I do know of several Greek residents who used to import roses from Beales (pre Brexit) as choice is more limited for them, especially on the islands. Just a hunch though, I’m not at all certain!”

Rose blooms can also look very different in hot climates, as they do in mine, so that makes ID doubly difficult. Anyway, if you think Flanders looks similar vhall, why not treat yourself to it! 😊

Loads of Brits with 2nd homes on Cyprus so it wouldn't surprise me at all to find British roses bought online and planted in their gardens.
